A Change In Friends

by Jennifer Collins

"And then what happened?" Ashley asked her best friend, Cassie, excitedly.

"Well, I went to the bus stop that's at the border between South Valley and Angel Grove, and he was there. It's like he read my mind or something."

"Or maybe the two of you just have a special connection," Ashley said.

Cassie's mouth twitched into a little smile at the thought.

"It's so romantic. I always knew you two secretly liked each other. Carlos and Justin, too. And even Andros asked me if you guys were going out once. We were all waiting."

Cassie laughed.

"It's true!" Ashley insisted. "Hey, aren't you going to tell me what happened next? Finish your story!"

"Well," Cassie smiled shyly. "He kissed me."

Ashley squealed happily. "I knew it! I was going to a movie in Stone Canyon with the others, and we passed by your bench and saw you guys kissing. It was so cute!"

Our bench, Cassie thought. "Yeah," was her quiet reply to Ashley's enthusiasm.

"So, aren't you going to give me details?" Ashley grinned mischievously.

"Details?" Cassie asked blankly. "What details?"

"Oh, come on! Is he a good kisser?"

Cassie blushed, but a slow smile appeared on her face. "The best," she said truthfully. Her smile suddenly disappeared. "But, what does it all mean? Uh- are we supposed to be, like boyfriend and girlfriend or something?"

"I think you should get together. Everyone knows you have the hots for each other. You do like him, don't you?"

"Yes. He's great, but what if he doesn't feel the same way? I mean, we're such close friends. I wouldn't want to ruin it."

"I don't think it would be a problem."

"Why do you say that?"

"I don't know, it just seems like you and T.J. are meant to be together."

Cassie opened her locker and grabbed some notebooks. "I know, but still, where do we go from here?"

Just then, T.J. came up behind her, covering her eyes with his hands. "Guess who," he said.

"Um, Selwyn Ward," Cassie answered.

"Nope." T.J. took his hands away and turned her to face him.

"Oh, it's T.J.!" Cassie said, feigning surprise.

Ashley laughed. At that moment, she knew the young couple would be okay. "I'd better get going," she said.

"Okay. I'll call you later," Cassie said.

"You better."

"Bye," T.J. called. He turned back to Cassie and kissed her cheek. "Can I walk you to your next class?"

Cassie closed her locker door. "Sure." She fell into step beside T.J.

"Uh...look, Cassie. About last night......."

"Why did you go to the bus stop?" Cassie blurted.

"For the same reason you did, I think. Amazing. You always know where to find me. So, why did you go?" T.J. asked, a little hopefully.

"I don't know. I- something inside was pushing me. It's like I had to. Kind of like the time I missed the bus to follow you."

T.J. nodded. He knew all he needed to know for now. There was just one more thing that had to be said. "I love you, Cassie."

Cassie looked up at T.J. "I love you, too," she said softly.

T.J. slung an arm around her shoulders. "Come on," he said. "Let's go to class."
